Afghan Girl by k-hallowseve Afghan Girl by k-hallowseve
A tribute to my all-time favorite photograph. You've seen this before. C'mon. Anyway, done in art class, in graphite, to rebel against my own non-functional charcoal skills. I was thrilled in '02 when they finally found this girl after all these years--Sharbat Gula. Very cool.

Afghan Girl (C) Steve McCurry, 1985

Yeah, if I recall correctly it was on the cover of a 1985 issue about the war in Afghanistan with the Soviets. Steve McCurry, the photographer, snuck rolls of film into the country--sewn into his clothes... unless I'm thinking of a different NG job from him... *gets confused easily* He took several other pictures of this same girl, and I'd like to find copies of them (need to look harder).

Thank you. :blushes: I may try and re-scan/revamp it; now that I look at it, I think the scanner dragged it outside and beat it to death. :XD:

*laughs* I don't know where that's from, either, but I've heard my dad say it. I'd like to do it again, anyway; that's my favorite photo ever and I never get tired of looking at it.

Thanks. But don't sell yourself short; I'm sure you could if you set your mind to it and had a good reference.

Yeah, a hiatus is a lack of inspiration, like writer's block or artist's block. The Romanian language has Latin roots, doesn't it?

yes romanian is a latin language.of course we have some words that come from the orignal dacic language such as: varza=cabbage;mazare=pea;viezure=badger.and we have a lot of words from french some from turkish and some from russian(we were occupied by the turks for 500 years and by the russians i don't know for how long)Our grammar comes from lattin :)

I thought so; assuming your signature's in Romanian, it seemed to have some latin roots as well. But I suppose most european languages have some latin influence.

I wish the shading was slightly more accurate, but I'm afraid to touch it now. :)
